Spring Klein Chamber of Commerce Announces First Annual Christmas in July Banquet and Auction

The Chamber to hold their first event to promote Spring, Texas and introduce area residents to local businesses with a festive celebration

Spring, TX – June 16, 2008 – The Spring Klein Chamber of Commerce (SKCC) will hold their first annual Christmas in July banquet with a live auction on Friday, July 25, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. All proceeds from the auction will be to support the startup of the Chamber, a not-for-profit organization (application pending) that operates to promote business development, a strong community and superior quality of life in Spring and Klein Texas.

To be held at the Augusta Pines Savannahs in Spring, Texas, the event will have all the ambience and air of Christmas complete with dinner, dancing, holiday decor and live music. In its first year the Chamber hopes to increase awareness about the Chamber, boost its current membership by 20%, and raise $5,000 for its startup year.

The live auction will feature a host of items ranging from household products and baked goods to sports memorabilia and event tickets. Running the auction will be Mark Moore with Cheray Auctioneers, License # 15019, who is volunteering his time in support of the chamber. Special guests are expected throughout the evening to celebrate the season with Spring business owners and residents.

“We are so excited to be creating an organization dedicated to the well being of the Spring Klein area. We want to nurture it and preserve its beauty, while embracing the enormous growth we are experiencing,” said Elle Carnes, Chairman of the banquet.

Tickets are on sale now at $50 for chamber members and $55 for non-members. SKCC is soliciting donations for door prizes and auction items, as well as underwriters and advertisers for the event program. Spring and Klein Area Business Owners Educated on How to Receive High Rankings for Their Websites

Spring, TX – June 5, 2008 – The Spring Klein Chamber of Commerce (SKCC) held their second monthly luncheon on Tuesday, June 3^rd providing members and guests with a networking opportunity that also increased their knowledge of how to market their business websites on the Internet.

Javier Avellan, an Internet Marketing Consultant, formerly employed with Schipul of Houston, educated luncheon attendees on web marketing design fundamentals. Avellan gave them instruction, tips and methods on how to attract customers to their website using basic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques and then how to motivate the customers to action once they arrive at the business website. Several guests spoke with him afterwards to get additional input on specific ways to improve their site.

Business leaders, who met at the Sizzler Restaurant on FM2920, also gave short presentations on the services and products that their companies provide ranging from legal services to auto body repair and restoration to supplemental insurance to a Spring area community forum. “The various types of businesses represented really shows a great start to this grassroots business organization,” says Toni Richard, president and co-founder of the Chamber. “Their needs however are primarily the same. They want to grow their business and support the community where they work.”

Kick Off Luncheon Receives Enthusiastic Turnout

Nearly 80 business leaders gathered at the inaugural luncheon of the Spring Klein Chamber of Commerce, held at the Sizzler Restaurant on FM2920 in Spring on Tuesday, May 6, 2008.

Keynote Speaker Constable Ron Hickman of Harris County Precinct 4 shared information about the incredible growth that the Spring and Klein area is experiencing and the need for businesses to remember to take precautions to prevent crime. He also recommended steps to be proactive in keeping our area businesses more secure. Hickman expressed that since taking office in 2001, he has seen this area grow most rapidly in recent years. Guests showed concern at the amount of traffic and the potential for undesirable businesses along FM 2920. Hickman encouraged attendees of the luncheon to take an active role in the community to preserve our quality of life. He said, “It’s a normal cycle for pride of ownership to lower expectations as a community ages. That doesn’t have to happen if all of you do what you are doing today… getting involved.”

Bill Rogers, a ’serial entrepreneur’ and founder of the Yes You Can Do It Club, spoke to the audience about the importance of networking with others in the community to help ensure the success of each business. He encouraged business owners to step out of their comfort zones, even utilizing social networks such as MySpace.

Toni Richard, co-founder of the Spring Klein Chamber of Commerce and Publisher of The Tomball-Spring Times, let the audience know that her vision for the community is to create more opportunities for local businesses to connect and support each other. She pointed to Dr. Paul Proske of Vision Eye Care saying, “My children go to Dr. Proske’s clinic not only because he’s a wonderful man and a thorough physician but also because I want to support a business right here in the Spring area. I encourage you all to do the same.” The audience responded with laughter and applause.

Richard informed the audience that she is not ‘out to take something from anyone else’ but repeatedly spoke of her passion for the area and that she wants this to be a place that her children will want to invest in as adults. “I want them to graduate from Klein Oak go to college and then create businesses right here in the Spring community.”

The organization plans to create more business networking opportunities, Spring area events to promote the community, and act as an advocate on issues such as traffic, area beautification and mass transportation. “I can’t do this alone but we can all do it together,” said Richard.

“Our next step is to follow all the legal steps to get this Chamber established in the community,” she stated. The attendees responded affirmatively to supporting the Chamber through membership and committee sign ups. Richard wrapped things up by saying, “we are not going anywhere”.

Bandit Signs

Businesses need to advertise in some form. It is the cost of doing business in order to attract clients or customers. However, many businesses think that if they just find a post and a piece of cardboard that they are saving money on advertising, but the resulting fines from this illegal practice isn’t worth the ’supposed’ savings. Not to mention the eye sore that these makeshift marquees become when they are on telephone or electric poles or on the side of our streets and roads.

At the Spring Klein Chamber of Commerce luncheon held on May 6th, Constable Ron Hickman of Harris County Precinct 4 made it very clear that this practice is illegal and his officers are removing these signs from the roads and then processing the paperwork to penalize the violating ’bandits.’

Do our community a favor and please keep our Spring and Klein roads and streets beautiful. Advertise in our local magazines and newspapers, post flyers at community centers and libraries, but don’t use bandit signs.
